Everyone has goals. Everyone has wishes. And for some, they’re one and the same. Because when you have a goal without a plan, you don’t really have a goal at all. You may as well just wish for that faux goal to happen next time you blow out your birthday cake candles.
Ever heard the saying, “a goal without a plan is just a wish”? Well, it’s not just a saying. It’s reality. Until you make a plan and act on it, consistently, your short-term and long-term goals will likely remain unaccomplished.
Want to achieve your goals? Execution is everything
The Bible, in the Book of James, tells us that faith without works is dead. And this remains true across arenas. It doesn’t matter how much you believe a thing can or will happen. Unless you take the steps needed to make it happen, it won’t. Why would it?
A goal without a plan is just a wish. Same way any wish you have and create plans to make happen is a goal. The plan is the key ingredient. The secret sauce. Because plans help ensure proper execution. And execution is everything. Without it, nothing changes—every hope, dream, and desire remains a wish.
Notably, this doesn’t mean your success or failure in achieving a goal always comes down to your actions. But your execution will significantly influence the outcome.
If you want to grow a tree, for instance, you won’t be able to control how much the sun shines or how much rain falls. Still, you can make sure you plant the tree. If you don’t do that, sunlight and rain patterns don’t matter. And when you do plant the tree, you can make sure you plant it in an area with good sunlight, and don’t overwater it right after a rainstorm. With this simple execution, your chances of success skyrocket.
Don’t go after a goal without a plan. If you want something, don’t let it remain a mere wish. Plan your work. Work your plan. Turn that wish into a tangible goal. Then achieve it.
